The History and Significance of the Ekka

The Brisbane Royal Show, affectionately known as the Ekka, has been a beloved annual event since its inception in 1876. It was then called the Intercolonial Exhibition, and the name was changed in 1921 when the show was recognised by King George V.

Today, this grand showcase celebrates Queensland’s vibrant agriculture and culture industries. It provides a platform for local farmers, artisans, and entertainers to display their talents and products.

The Ekka has grown from a modest agricultural show into a massive event that attracts over 400,000 visitors each year, making it a key part of Brisbane's cultural landscape.
